High and Low Places

In 2018 I reached both the highest and lowest places I’ve ever hiked or traveled to. the lowest can’t be beat as that was in the Dead Sea, bt the highest, that’s anther challenge o adventure:

Highest point to date

Not counting a few road passes slightly higher, the highest was off rod in Colorado.

The wife and I love Colorado in the summers and we spent a day off roading in the Rockies getting to elevations slightly higher than 12,000 feet (higher than the tree line). Due to my wife’s respiratory issues as a cancer survivor we could no further up as she was having breathing issues.

Lowest elevations
I was in Israel in April of 2018 and had the opportunity to tour the Dead Sea and the hike up to the top of Masada.

The Dead Sea is the lowest point on earth at a 1,410 feet / 430 meters below sea level.

Other Elevations of Note

Everglades National Park, Pass

Leadville, Colorado

At 10,152 feet (3,094 m) Leadville has the highest elevation of any city in the United States and has a very Wild West and colorful past, counting residents such as Doc Holliday and the Unsinkable Molly Brown of Titanic fame.

what’s next

Lows: Death Valley – lowest point in the US 282 feet below sea level or 8 meters below sea level.

Highs: not really sure, as I’m not a climber and I do suffer from  Plantar fasciitis, so extreme hikes or climbs are less and less likely moving forward. I would love to do a 14’teener in Colorado (14,000 foot peak) but between my wife’s respiratory issues and my  Plantar fasciitis, don’t see that happening!
