Music or Silence When Traveling

I love music, rock, jazz, classical and Brazilian Bosa Nova and Samba.

But I also love silence. Oftentimes when traveling either in the car or plane I will travel in silence. No radio, no music no watching movies inflight.

On long flights to Europe or Brazil I usually put on a pair of noise canceling headphones and enjoy the quiet hum of the plane engines till I fall asleep. On shorter flights a magazine or a book or a nap will keep me entertained for a few hours.

On long car rides I can drive for hours with nothing but the wind breaking the silence. When I do listen to music on the road, I prefer commercial radio over streaming or satellite radio. I find local FM or AM stations give you the flavor of where you’re traveling.

In today’s world it’s hard to escape noise, commercial noise, advertisements, music, entertainment, talk, etc. I do cherish the silence in these moments on the open road or in the air.
