Off Roading in Big Cyprus National Preserve
Located some 75 miles west from Miami, but a world away, Big Cypress National Preserve is a diverse landscape, where one can see cypress and mangroves, alligators, and panther tracks all in one day! It’s west of the Everglades and very swampy.
Fresh off my Bronco Off-roadeo training in the Texas Hill Country (see blog post here), I am ready to tackle the swampy trails and ruts in Big Cyprus. First, I had to get a permit, which only opens in December and sells out very fast.
Got the call from the park service ranger that the permits for 2022-23 are now open, and I headed out to Big Cyprus with all my paperwork as well as having previously taken the online course.
With permit in hand, and the gates combination lock code in my phone, I’m ready to hit the trails in the new year. Stay tuned for more off-road posts and video!
