When I turned 50 I made a list of 60 things I wanted to accomplish by the time I turned 60 in 2022. Considering during that ten year time span I went back to school for a masters, lost a job and went through a global pandemic, I accomplished a majority of that list.
Well, here’s what I hope to accomplish by the time I’m 65, over the next five years:
Visit all 50 states
I was supposed to complete this in 2020, but as of this writing I am at 49 states, only missing New Mexico. Will go sometime in 2023.
Cross all Major Geographic Lines of Demarcation
I’ve crossed all the following by either ship or foot except the Antarctic circle. (Sorry folks planes don’t count)
- Arctic Circle
- Antarctic Circle (2027)
- Greenwich Mean
- International Date Line
- Tropic of Cancer
- Tropic of Capricorn
Fish the Amazon Jungle for River Monsters
Was supposed to be a 2020 / 2021 trip. Now scheduled for 2023!
Fish Iceland’s Lake Thingvallavatn for Ice Age Trout
Shooting for 2024 to go after the only population of landlocked ice age brown trout in the world, cut off from the sea some 12,000 years ago when the glaciers last retreated
Visit all Seven Continents
Missing Africa and Antarctica. Plan on going to Morocco in 2024 / 25 with the wife and to the Southern Polar regions in 2027 when I’m 65 years old.
Fish in Patagonia (Chile or Argentina)
didn’t accomplish this in the previous ten years, hope to combine this with a trip the Antarctica.
Sail the Seven Seas (modern ones)
Of the Seven modern seas, I have sailed all but the arctic ocean and the Southern Seas (Antarctica)
- Arctic (not sailed)
- North Atlantic (sailed)
- South Atlantic (sailed)
- North Pacific (crossed)
- South Pacific (crossed)
- Indian Ocean (crossed)
- Southern Ocean (not sailed)
