One of my favorite things to do when I travel is to visit the local market. To really understand a culture, food is at the center.
While I have been to Brazil many many times over the last 35+ years and married to a Brazilian, this was my first trip to the Amazon. So, I made it a priority to visit the Adolpho Lisboa Municipal Market. (see video and photo gallery below)

Here is where the local fishermen and farmers and trades folk ply their trade (best to go in the morning when it’s all hustle and bustle and no tourists). While my photos and videos will show the sights and sounds of the market, to truly experience it is to also use our olfactory senses, or sense of smell, from fish to tropical fruits.
