Talkeetna, AK … a Touristy Town with a Mountain and a River

Talkeetna is small town nestled at the base of North America’s tallest peak, Mt. Denali and the Susitna River or Big Su.

Talkeetna is a destination for cruise ship excursions via bus and day-trippers from Anchorage via train to see the Alaska Range, visit Denali National Park or shop its quaint boutiques on Main Street. It’s also a basecamp for climbers tackling the 20,310 feet high peak of Denali.

Talkeetna Basecamp for Outdoor Adventure

Talkeetna is a great basecamp for exploring the region, there are plenty of accommodations for every budget, restaurants, bars, shops and boutiques line Main Street, and there is world class fishing all around, as well as plenty of tours from ATVs, to river rafts, horseback riding to flight seeing the Alaska Range.

Talkeetna Fishing

First fishing excursion was a float plane trip to a glacier fed lake and fished the Coffee Creek, deep within Denali National Preserve. Second day fishing was along the Montana Creek, which in any other state would be a river.

My Cabin in the Woods

I rented a cabin about 4 miles outside of town down a dirt road off the Talkeetna river. It was the nicest cabin I had the entire trip.
