Here’s a preview of what’s planned, booked or pending for 2024:

Rio Negro, Amazon

  • In January I’m headed to Brazil, this time in the upper Rio Negro in search for giant 3-barred Peacock Bass. Once again I will be with Steve Townson of Amazon Anglers.
  • Estimated total trip budget, $7,000 (includes first class tickets to Manaus)

Dry Tortugas, Florida Keys

  • In May, I’m headed to the Dry Tortugas, located about 68 miles (109 km) west of Key West in the Gulf of Mexico, and reachable by boat / seaplane.
  • The Dry Tortugas, is one of the most remote national parks in the US. However, this is a 2-day fishing expedition in and around the Tortugas, using Key West Second Generation charters as a base of operations.
  • Estimated total trip budget: $5,000 (charters, hotels, etc.)

Canadian Maritimes

  • In the fall of 2024, I’m heading to the Canadian Maritime provinces of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and PEI (Prince Edward Island) for some fall fishing action.
  • Estimated total trip budget: $5-7,000 (incudes first class tickets to Halifax and flying my son from Toronto to NS, plus fishing guides, hotels, etc.)

Budget notes:

Approximately 50% of the cost of these trips are covered using points from AMEX or airlines such as AA or United for all travel including hotels and car rentals as appropriate. Cash back cards covers another chunk of out-of-pocket expenses. See video here on how to hack your travel.
